6 Teeth Minus 2 Plus 2 Variable Cam

General Details

This is a specialized encoder with four position reporting edges per cycle. The edge polarity is important. Configure it with the Edge attribute of the Variable Cam Phase block. The variable cam phaser may not operate correctly if the incorrect edge is chosen. Integrating this cam with a crank encoder is pattern specific.

Integration with 3x(12 Minus 2)

The cam phaser signal that is also being used to communicate half-cycle information to the crank encoder (the signal utilizing the CAM resource) has additional location burdens placed upon it. The annotated edge within the figure must remain within the yellow shaded region of the 3x(12 minus 2) pattern. Encoder errors may result if this is not true.

Cam Reports

A cam trigger shall be issued each time a synchronous edge is observed of which there are four. The reports won't be equidistantly distributed about the cycle. The user has the option to detect and discard the 120degCA spaced report and run 3 equidistant reports per cycle or include it and calculate the relative cam position accordingly. Using all the reports will generally lead to a better position controller.
