This mexopts.bat cannot be found can occur at runtime if the user has not specified a mex compiler in Matlab or does not have a mex compiler installed in 64-bit Matlab versions.

The mex compiler is used to generate the s-function mexw32/64 files (formerly .dlls). The Mathworks includes an lcc mex compiler with 32-bit installations, but a mex compiler is not included with 64-bit Matlab. Therefore, the use must install a supported mex compiler when Matlab is installed. This is separate from the GCC/GHS/Codewarrior compiler used by Motohawk.

The Mathworks has a list of supported mex compilers here: : http://www.mathworks.com/support/compilers/R2012a/win64.html (Insert your version of Matlab for 2012a)

Install a supported compiler, then run >>mex -setup to setup the compiler option.
